Cosmetics Safety

Safety tests of cosmetic products enable compliance of Article 3 of the 1223/2009 norm by manufacturers, distributers and importers, and ensure that cosmetic products are safe for human use when utilized under normal or prescribed reasonable conditions. There are different in vitro methods that do not use animal model testing to verify eye and skin tolerance of a cosmetic product.

Efficacy tests on cosmetic products enable consideration of the 1223/2009 regulation relative to consumer protection against fraudulent claims by evaluating the different properties claimed by a particular cosmetic product. There are different trials on human volunteers to test the different effects of the product.

Cosmetic regulations (safety evaluation) state in article 10 that a safety evaluation is mandatory for the introduction of a cosmetic product into the market as part of the product information specification file by a Safety Assessor who will produce a safety report on that particular cosmetic product.
